Overview

Our Presence in Qatar

Boeing and Qatar have been partners since 2006, when Qatar Airways placed its first order for 78 Boeing 777 airplanes.

Since then, Boeing’s partnership with Qatar has grown, with involvement in all sectors of aerospace and an expanding workforce. Boeing contributes to the economic diversification and ambitious growth of Qatar by supporting the development of advanced technologies, driving sustainable aviation, and building the skills and capacity of future talent.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes

Since our partnership began in 2006, Qatar Airways has made landmark orders of Boeing 777s, 747-8 Freighters, 787 Dreamliners and 737 MAX airplanes.

We are proud to be a part of Qatar Airways’ success story and to support Qatar’s ambitious growth plans in aviation, trade and tourism, with more than 150 Boeing airplanes currently in the airline’s fleet and more than 130 Boeing airplanes on order.

As the launch customer of the new Boeing 777-8 Freighter, Qatar Airways has ordered 74 777X passenger and freighter airplanes.

In April 2023, Qatar Airways took delivery of its first 737-8, the first Boeing single-aisle airplane in the airline’s fleet. The carrier also has 25 Boeing 737 MAXs in its order books.

Boeing’s newest products will support Qatar Airways as it expands its passenger and cargo capacity.

Additionally, Boeing has been working closely with Qatar Airways Cargo in developing “connected cargo” solutions to enable better operational efficiency.

Qatar Airways

Boeing Defense, Space & Security

In 2008, Qatar became the first Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nation to operate the C-17 Globemaster III airlifters. Since then, Boeing has been working closely with the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF).

Boeing provides support to the QEAF by facilitating iconic platforms, including the F-15QA (Qatar Advanced) fighters, the C-17 Globemaster transport airplanes and the AH-64 Apache helicopters.

Boeing defense programs have played a crucial role in safeguarding Qatar’s air, land and sea borders, as well as conducting humanitarian missions worldwide. Additionally, they have been instrumental in monitoring airspace during significant events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Boeing Global Services

Commercial

Qatar Airways takes advantage of Boeing’s service offerings, which encompass spare parts, training solutions and modification services.

Qatar Airways benefits from Boeing’s digital aviation solutions providing real-time access to maintenance, flight and aircraft performance information, enabling the airline to optimize efficiency and reduce carbon emissions and operating costs.

Global Services

Defense

Boeing works closely with the QEAF, delivering comprehensive training and sustainment services for its C-17 fleet.

Boeing provides spare parts, support and test equipment, maintenance, training for aircrew and maintenance personnel for Qatar’s AH-64 Apache helicopters.

Boeing offers in-country spare parts, maintenance, training, program management and logistics support for the F-15QA (Qatar Advanced) fighters.

To ensure optimal mission readiness and seamless support for all defense platforms, Boeing is expanding its workforce in Qatar.

Partnerships

We are committed to advancing innovation and technology and driving aerospace industry growth through strategic partnerships with Qatar’s prominent organizations.

Invest Qatar

In 2024, Boeing and the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar (Invest Qatar) joined forces to establish a new legal entity, Boeing Aerospace Doha LLC, in Qatar. The new Boeing hub aims to bolster the local aerospace sector by focusing on research and technology advancements, support for startups, sustainable aviation initiatives, and the cultivation of a skilled workforce.

The establishment of Boeing Aerospace Doha LLC will complement the ongoing efforts of existing branches, Boeing Qatar Inc. and Boeing International Corporation, further solidifying Boeing’s commitment to Qatar’s economic diversification and competitiveness.

Qatar Economic Forum

Qatar Computing Research Institute

The partnership of Boeing and Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) has resulted in groundbreaking research in machine learning and work on computer vision for autonomy. The collaboration enhances the understanding of correlations in data produced by aerospace systems and improves the early detection of small objects for safer landings.

Boeing and QCRI also host an annual international symposium on machine learning and data analytics in Doha.

Qatar University

Boeing supports a series of initiatives of the Qatar University College of Engineering focused on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and a robotics competition.

Sustainability

Fleet renewal is an important lever to reduce aviation’s environmental impact. Qatar Airways operates one of the youngest fleets in the world and has Boeing’s newest and most environmentally friendly airplanes on order, including the 737-10, 777-9, 777-8F.

Qatar Airways also uses a wide range of Boeing’s digital tools and services. Such solutions and flight procedures reduce carbon emissions by 10%.

Boeing and Qatar Airways are both members of the World Economic Forum’s Clean Skies for Tomorrow coalition, working diligently to establish a viable pathway for the adoption of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

Boeing has extensive experience in sharing sustainability expertise with air forces and airlines globally, and is eager to expand collaboration in Qatar on the uptake of SAF for both commercial and defense fleet.

Community Engagement

Boeing supports a range of initiatives to accelerate opportunities for young people in Qatar. Since 2009, Boeing invested $1.5 million in STEM education and workforce development in the country.

Over 5,000 students have benefited from the entrepreneurship program and more than 800 school children participated in STEM workshops Boeing has been organizing annually together with INJAZ Qatar.
